CEO gender, institutional context and firm exports

To what extent does the gender of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) matter in relationship between home country corruption and firm exports? Drawing on post-structural feminist institutional theories, we employ self-reported micro-level cross-country data from 4714 firms 75 countries during 2008-2015 to examine how differences contexts affect exports men- women-led firms. We find that pervasive arbitrary types have different effects exports, female CEOs mitigate two distinct ways. Our results contribute literature, are robust when controlling for economic development quality characteristics. study suggests developing emerging economies will be less vulnerable predictably-corrupt institutions than uncertain institutions.
